Why Some People Have Perfect Bodies Doing Only The Bare Minimum, And Why It may Be Impossible For You To Get That World-Class Physique No Matter How Many Hours You Spend In The Gym Or What Kind Of Drugs You Take!”
Can bodybuilding/weightlifting be bad for your health?
Hi everyone.
I spend a lot of time in the gym and weightlifting has become a big part of my life. It relieves my stress and brings out my confidence. I’ve been doing it for a little while, but now I’m hearing that it can be bad for your heart and cause you to live a shorter life and such. Is there any truth to this? I’m only 21 years old. I’m not a big huge female bodybuilder….but I do hit the weights hard and am very, very toned. I was happy with how I was until I started hearing this can be bad for me. Does anyone know anything about this?
P.S.- I do everything natural and the only supplements I take are fish oils and my daily multi-vitamins.
It’s not really that simple to answer.
If you are eating a healthy diet, a good multi-vitamin, getting in some cardio, going heavy but not overdoing it then you are most likely fine. The exception is if you haven’t consulted a doctor. You may have some underlying condition that could be aggravated by training. So everyone should just get checked out to make sure it’s all good. You’ll be that much healthier than the people with the horror stories. It’s a good idea to get a regular check up anyway.
Coincidentally, women can and should train exactly like men. The heavy weights will NOT make you bulk up. With the exception of a few women, you lack the testosterone to build big muscles. So go as heavy as you want and is safe.
That being said, if you use too many supplements, use steroids, overtrain, train when you’re sick, don’t take rests… then it’s a whole different story. I have seen guys walk in with the flu and have heart attacks.
I also always recommend to every single person to take a full week off every 8 weeks. What this does is give your body a good chance to repair and to work on any potential injuries. You will come back more rested and actually be stronger for it. I know it’s hard to take a break but after a few months you get into the cycle and find that you’re progressing.

"This massive and authoritative Master Blaster book is the greatest bodybuilding book ever written, primarily because it is firmly based on the training principles of the Weider System of Bodybuilding, which have been followed by literally every bodybuilder in the modern history of the sport. I began developing my Weider System back in the 1930s and continue to refine and add new Weider Training Principles to it. You can rely on the information I present in this book to improve your physique. Good luck!" — Joe Weider On Instinctive Training "One of the most fundamental secrets of successful bodybuilding is getting to know your body and how it reacts to various training and nutritional practices. Unless you have finely honed your instinctive training ability, it will take many weeks, even months, to evaluate each experiment. It definitely pays to master the Weider Instinctive Training Principle." — Franco Columbo, two-time Mr. Olympia On Progression "The key to building massive, powerful muscles is to doggedly increase the training weights you use. But it is only good to increase training poundage if you do so in perfect form. There is a direct correlation between the amount of weight you use with perfect biomechanics in an exercise and the mass of muscles that move that weight." — Lee Haney, three-time Mr. Olympia On Muscle Confusion "Once I reached the advanced level of bodybuilding and started entering competitions, I discovered that I quickly became bored with a set training program. I began to use the Weider Muscle Confusion Principle, changing to a new and more challenging routine every time I came into the gym to bomb a particular body part." — Lou Ferrigno On Supersets "Since supersets constitute a big jump in training intensity, I always tell bodybuilders new to the Weider Supersets Training Principles to experiment with supersets, compounding movements for the biceps and triceps, or forearm flexors and forearm extensors." — Albert Beckles, IFBB World Pro Grand Prix Champion

SHIPPING INCLUDED High-level strength training programs have advanced almost as fast as technology itself over the past decade. In Target Bodybuilding, Per Tesch combines the two to present weightlifting techniques that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has revealed to be most beneficial for muscle building and sculpting. The book begins with an explanation of the MRI technology and how the information acquired from it takes the guesswork out of training. Tesch then provides a brief anatomical overview, focusing most on the major arm and leg muscle groups that will be targeted in the exercise section that follows. A total of 60 lifts are included for the biceps, triceps, thigh, and calf muscles. Two large photos showing the starting and lifting positions are shown for each lift. Instructions for proper lifting technique accompany the photos. On a facing page, an enlarged photograph of the specific muscle group and body part is complemented by a description of the muscle function involved in the lift. Paired with this information is a large MRI scan showing the amount of activity generated in each muscle involved in the lift. At the end of the book, Tesch explains how to develop a successful bodybuilding program. He also provides a number of tips for beginning, intermediate, and advanced trainers. Take the guesswork out of training. With the help of MRI technology, Target Bodybuilding goes inside the body to show the best techniques for building and sculpting the muscles. An inside look at the fascinating and largely unknown world of women’s bodybuilding. Slice-of-life observer Maria R. Lowe introduces us to a world where size and strength must be balanced with a nod toward grace and femininity. For WOMEN OF STEEL, Lowe interviewed more than 100 individuals, from the bodybuilders themselves to trainers, family members, spouses, judges, and sponsors. 20 photos.pA lot of people in the general public think female bodybuilding is gross and freaky . . . that that’s not what a woman is supposed to look like. So says Michelle, a national bodybuilding judge. In fact, athletic women, especially those in sports where strength, muscle, and sweat feature prominently, are typically viewed by the public as being outside the boundaries of appropriate femininity. And perhaps no group of women athletes embodies this gender outlaw status more than female bodybuilders, who by their bulk and sheer strength challenge our very notions of what it means to be a woman. Why would women choose to look like that? And what does it take to get and stay so muscular?pMaria R. Lowe has interviewed more than one hundred people connected with women’s bodybuilding, from the bodybuilders themselves, to trainers, family members, spouses, judges, and sponsors. In Women of Steel, Lowe introduces us to a world where size and strength must be balanced with a nod toward grace and femininity. Lowe, who actually worked out with a couple of the bodybuilders she interviewed, gets at the heart of what it is to be a woman bodybuilder. We learn about paying the price–doing the necessary exercise, and sometimes drugs–that allows women to rise to the top of their profession. We follow their successes and failures, and discover the benefits– including increased self-esteem and physical strength–as well as the sometimes unhealthy effects of their training regimen, from dehydration to baldness to rampant acne to high blood pressure. Every bodybuilder is inundated with ads that this or that supplement will bring him to the next bodybuilding realm. But what’s the truth?
