Why are so many gym routines on the net quite “small”?
seen a few gym routines, eg http://www.iwantsixpackabs.com/workout/week2.html is 6 excercises, with 3 sets each. or http://www.firsttimelifter.com/workoutschedule.htm which can be just 50 calf raises and 3 sets of 10 reps of squats. it really doesn’t seem like much.
how long do most people spend at the gym each session?
you dont need to do alot, you just need to stimulate, 3 sets of 10 rep squat can be killer with the right weight. Its about the intensity you put into it and how you squeeze the muscle. Bodybuilders dont spend hours in the gym, they only train for an hour max but they train right. Doing more doesnt mean more muscle.

It sounds as if you just need some lifts to start off. Heres some of my staple excercises in the offseason.

A revolutionary method of weight lifting using today’s science for maximum results. In The New Rules of Lifting, fitness guru Lou Schuler and strength-training expert Alwyn Cosgrove boil down the most recent findings on weight lifting and fitness to create a program of workouts that focuses on the movements at which the body naturally excels. These six ”real-life” movements-squat, bend, lunge, push, pull, and twist-compose three complete programs for three distinct goals: fat loss, muscle gain, and strength improvement. At home or at the gym, these routines can be mixed and matched for a year’s worth of workouts that will keep boredom at bay and lifters challenged long after most plans have called it quits. And while coordinated, useful muscles will always turn heads at the beach, they’ll also help you live better and longer. Besides providing comprehensive workout programs, The New Rules of Lifting covers much-needed background on aspects of lifting that are often overlooked, like warming up, nutrition, and meal planning. Throughout, Schuler and Cosgrove debunk strength-training myths, troubleshoot dangerous pitfalls, and clearly illustrate moves with black-and-white photographs.
Psychiatrist Martin Kantor takes us into his treatment rooms and daily experience to show the signs and causes of depression in men, and how they do not display the disorder most often in the way we typically associate with depression. Many men who feel depressed deny it by shifting into hypomania. Trying to hide, reject or downplay the feeling, they may become excessively elated, have a decreased need for sleep, find their thoughts racing and their sexual desire fueled out of control. "Where there was, initially with depression, a withdrawal and a desire to weep, then enters attention-seeking behavior, clowning and flighty energy," explains Kantor. That makes the depression far more difficult for laypeople and professionals–even for the men themselves–to recognize and deal with. "That is unfortunate because a small amount of medical attention and personal affection can work wonders, rechanneling the man into a life of happiness he might never have known, and a level of achievement he might never othewise have attained," says Kantor Long thought to be a "feminine" disorder connected to hormones and the premenstrual syndrome, depression actually strikes millions of men each year. With absorbing vignettes, and insights into a faulty culture that urges men to always have a stiff upper lip and shun medical attention, Dr. Kantor shows the unique ways in which depression is very much a men’s disorder. And he helps us understand what we can do to treat it, to help ourselves and the men we care about recover.
Gday all. Ive been a low carb diet (less than 100g per day) and high protein for the last 3 weeks. I do the low carbs for 6 out of the 7 days and have a cheat day once a week. My goal is to get shredded. I started at 90kgs and Im now 84kgs with more definition. I have whey and casein protein, glutamine, multivitmains and caffeine as well as flaxseed oil. Ive seen to hit a wall. i cant get lower than 84kgs. i wanna get to 76-77 kgs and keep the muscles. Any diet suggestions? I do morning cardio on an empty stomach as well. please help as im dedicated. thanks
Sounds good. Someone suggested i might be gain muscle as well as losing weight. I cant tell cause in Oz we only have skin folds and not underwater fat testing. Ive heard that as well with the blow your muscle up thing. Im really getting into bodybuilding finally and i like the results and discipline. Thanks brotha
ok first of all ditch the low carb completely. what you want to do is control when you eat your carbs for max performance. its better to eat carbs before your workout or workouts and perhaps after then to not. running on empty will make u perform poorly. jsut dont overdo the carbs and manipulate when you eat them. the rest of the day is lean meat and lots of veg. your (cheat day) is a good idea as this will pump your muscles up with a high carb intake (sounds funny i know) just be sure not to go nuts. as you gain muscle and lose weight you wont lose much. just judge how ripped you think you are. but depending on your size that weight is fairly decent. try to mix up your workouts to. this might be hard if your like me. i hate changing my workout when you have seen results. but your body actually learns what your doing and when your doing it and adapts. thus youll stop gaining muscle and perhaps lose less weight. mix it up.

Contrary to prevailing myths that promote high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets, carbohydrates are, in fact, your body’s fuel of choice—the ideal food for optimal health and sustained energy levels. Now, in Good Carbs, Bad Carbs, authors Johanna Burani and Linda Rao make clear that all carbs, however, are not created equal. They explain how to use the glycemic index—a ranking of carbs based on the rate and level at which the body digests them—to distinguish between carbs and identify those carbs that are best for losing weight, staying healthy, controlling blood glucose levels, and maintaining energy throughout the day. Good Carbs, Bad Carbs will show you how to "diet" without the negative side effects—hunger pangs, headaches, and irritability—from which many dieters suffer. Organized in an easy-to-browse format, Good Carbs, Bad Carbs features: · A thorough guide to how carbs work—and why your body prefers them · Clear advice for the best carbs to help you lose weight · Information on reducing your risk of disease · Good carbs for kids · Plus ten delicious, easy-to-prepare recipes Packed with essential information that no informed eater should be without, Good Carbs, Bad Carbs will show you how to adjust your eating habits and strike the perfect balance of carbohydrates for optimum health, weight, and vitality.

Pure Pro Drink Highlights: 40 grams of Ion Exchange Whey Protein Isolate (WPI). 2 grams of Fractionated Rice Oligodextrin – Aids Absorption! WPI is Extremely Soluble for Rapid Uptake of Amino Acids. WPI is Loaded with the Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA’s): Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine. No Aspartame or Artificial Food Colors! The original Pure Pro formula – the industry’s first high protein ready-to-drink (RTD) – just got better! The 40 g of Whey Protein Isolate is now combined with 2 g of Fractionated Rice Oligodextrins for improved absorption and digestion. ABB has also dramatically improved the taste and texture, and each Pure Pro now contains absolutely NO Aspartame. Whey Protein Isolate is the purest form of whey protein extraction, yielding at least 90% pure whey and less of what you don’t want from a protein source – sugar, lactose, carbs and fat. To put that into perspective, Whey Protein Concentrates only yield about 70% whey, with the remainder of its volume coming from the aforementioned other sources (i.e. carbs and fat). Because Whey Protein Isolates are so pure, you get a much greater yield of the branched chain amino acids (BCAAS), Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, as well as providing you with a broad spectrum of the other essential and non-essential amino acids such as Glutamine and Alanine, not to mention protein fractions such as Lactoferrins and Immunoglobulins. BCAAs are important because they play such a critical role in stimulating protein synthesis and inhibiting protein catabolism, by way of metabolic as well as hormonal functions. For Daily Protein Nutrition, consume as many bottles of Pure Pro as necessary to supplement your protein needs. As a general rule, consume approximately one (1) gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day. To aid absorption, consume slowly; allowing yourself approximately fifteen (15) min
